Introductory Message and 'Submission Policy'
Welcome,
UnionMuse is the result of an attempt to create some semblance of an alternative
"press" for the AFM.
Other than commentary on the International Musician, everything on the
site so far is here because of reports from fellow musicians.
Alas, no tips = no stories.
We solicit your ideas, intelligence, leads, leaks, complaints (about the
AFM, mainly, but also about the site, if you must). Where possible, and
time permits, we will also do our best to answer any questions readers
submit. All sources will be protected, but we must know who you are, and
enough details about what you are reporting, to be able to verify the
information.
That said, anonymous submissions may be considered; but understand that
such "intelligence" will be rather carefully scrutinized. If
unverifiable by any means, the information will probably be discarded,
unless it is plausible or entertaining on some level—in which case
it may be presented anyway, but with some sort of caveat as to its murky
origins.
We are at present working on a project concerning the relationship between
the Music Performance Trust Fund(s) and the AFM and will have an initial
article or two related to that odd couple up soon.
In this vein, we would like to hear from readers who have stories (or
gripes) about the MPTF or about their AFM locals' methods of handling
those engagements (including the application and approval process).
Note that because this is a volunteer operation run by working musicians,
updates to the site are not guaranteed to take place on any particular
schedule.
We understand the annoyance inherent in looking up a website with any
regularity and finding it has not changed in three or four visits. In
order to avoid such frustration, we intend to institute a mailing list,
with notification of new articles (or the articles themselves) e-mailed
to interested readers at the time that those pieces are uploaded to the
site. In the meantime, please accept our "best efforts" intention
to update as often as possible. (Updates will occur all the more frequently
if we continue to receive information of substance from our readers.)
Thank you for visiting and for your input,
Lou Barranti, editor
